A lot of computer users are familiar with Google Earth. This Windows program allows you to view satellite images from around the world. But few users are familiar with GeoServer, an application which allows you to share and edit geospatial data, using servers.

The program supports the most popular data sources, like KML, GML, Shape Files and so on. During the installation process of GeoServer, the user will be asked whether the application should be installed as a service. Choosing the option will make the program run continuously in Windows and you will not need to start the server every time, manually.

After installing the application, the user will be able to access the main web interface just by typing a link in any installed web browser. After entering the default username and password, the user will have access to all the program's functions and features. As such, he will be able to configure various data sources with ease.

Besides configuring data sources, the web interface of GeoServer also allows you to define various users who will have access to the application and setup passwords for each of them.

It can run as a service and allows you to access it using any web browser. Besides that, it supports various data sources.

Some options presented in the web interface may be difficult to understand and use by beginners. GeoServer allows you to edit and share various geospatial data from numerous data sources with ease.
